SPIRAL OCTOBER NEWSLETTER 2022

Congratulations to all who went to the October LWE Regatta at Callala Bay. Congratulations to Peter Eslick, Merve Lotze and Luke Franklin taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in TT1 at JBSC LWE Regatta; and Peter, Merve and Tim Vandervoort for taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the Spiral Division. This was the start of the packed program over the next few weeks for we Spiral sailors. Results and report are on the Spiral website.

Next is Heat 2 of the TT, the CRSC Marathon on the 29th of this month, less than a week away. A good chance to have a scenic trip down the river – and back! Start at 13:00. NOR and SI’s are on the Spiral website. Two weeks later, on the weekend of the 12th -13th November is the ACT Dinghy Championship on Lake B.G. Race 1 on Saturday is TT 3. So put that one on your phone or in your diary and start organising some accommodation.

Two weeks after that, on the 26th -27th November is the Spiral NSW States in conjunction with the Kembla Classic at Port Kembla Sailing Club. Race 1 is TT 4. Racing starts Saturday afternoon, but PKSC wants competitors to front up to the registration table between 9:00 and 11:00, to complete registration. Registration for Spiral sailors is through the Spiral Association, for both the Spiral NSW States and the PKSC Kembla Klassic. One entry for both events. Entry for Senior members is $100 for the series, or $20 a race. Entry for Junior Spiral members is Free of Charge for both the Spiral NSW States and the Kembla Klassic. There will be limited camping, organised through PKSC, and a BBQ Saturday evening and breakfast Sunday morning from 07:30. The canteen will serve good food right through. It is an easy drive from Sydney, just hang a left at Northcliff Drive.

Do not forget to pay your Association Membership Fee before the States. If you have a Perpetual Trophy, please return it before the States or organise to get it to the States.

I have heard 318 is for sale, a boat which originally weighted in at 51 kg when measured decades ago. Sale details are on the Spiral website.

Something for discussion at the CRSC Marathon, and the States. Next year, October 7-14, the Australian Masters Games will be held in Adelaide. The seven Spiral sailors who went to this event pre-Covid had a wonderful time so why not have a bit of a chat about it. It is a new and exciting experience sailing a dinghy on open ocean. More details will follow.
