SPIRAL MARCH NEWSLETTER.
How the sailing season is rolling on! Which means we are getting to the sharp end of the Traveller’s Trophy (T.T.) with only three more events to go.
Not to take away from the Nationals and States, in many ways the T.T. is the premium competition of the season. It involves sailing in a variety of venues ranging from distance events in rivers (BYRA and Nowra Marathons,) inland lake sailing (Canberra and Southern Highlands,) to more traditional open water racing. With five drops the competition in scratch and handicap is very close this season. With three races available, if you have sailed two T.T.s so far, you can still be very competitive in the overall result. The results so far are on the website. After Heat 8 those with less than two heats sailed will be deleted from the results and the points for DNC/DNF will be recalculated which will compress the competition. Current results to Heat 7 are on the website.
The three remaining events are:
Southern Highlands Sailing Club, Fitzroy Falls - Sunday, March 12, 13:00
Chipping Norton Sailing Club, Chipping Norton Lakes – Saturday, March 25, 14:00
Peter Loft Marathon, BYRA – Sunday, May 7, 13:00 Le Mans Start.
Put them in your phone or diary.
For the Southern Highlands T.T. on this Sunday week the entry fee is $10, and race start at 13.00 (1pm if you have trouble with the maths of 24 hour time.) There will be sausage sandwiches and soft drinks for sale. Bring a compass, even handheld, and a whistle in case of fog.
Off to The Australian Masters?
Although months away, planning is well underway for being part of the Australian Masters Games. The sailing venue is Adelaide Sailing Club. Link to NOR below. Program is similar to our Nationals. Masters Games Entry is $125 ($110 if over 70y.o.). Sailing event entry is $80.

Recommend arriving Monday midday to drop off boats at Adelaide Sailing Club and have a practice sail in the afternoon. It is a 14-1/2 hour drive Ryde to Glenelg. An easy trip is Sydney-Hay, Hay-Adelaide. Alternatively, Sydney- Ouyen (about 10hrs), Ouyen-Adelaide (about 4hours). For the last trip to the Australian Masters in Adelaide, several sailors doubled up boats on trailers and shared the trip, or shared the tow. Makes for a pleasant trip.
Several accommodation bookings in Adelaide have been made. Please contact Grae Baker (m: 0424 678 800) as soon as possible if you are interested in accommodation.
Enjoy the rest of the sailing season, and let me know of any winter sailing so it can be included in coming newsletters.
