CHRISTMAS NEWSLETTER 2021.

UPCOMING EVENTS.

NATIONALS at the YMSC Canberra, 21-23 January, 2022.  Note this is Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Entry details will be on the website soon and please ensure you enter before the late fee comes into effect.  Some will be getting accommodation at the Forrest Hotel and Appartments, www.forresthotel.com

AGM at the Nationals on the Saturday the 22nd at 17.00 at the Y sailing club. As usual, all positions will be declared open and we would love to have new faces on your Committee.  We are particularly seeking a social media savvy publicity officer.  I am happy to continue writing these newsletters but I am not on social media!  We would also like other fresh ideas on the committee either in a position or just as a committee member, so please think about it and nominate.  Meetings are on Zoom so you do not have to travel and you can imbibe your own favourite cheese, bikkies and wine.

MEASURING.  Available for Sydney boats at CRSC on 15 January.  Please arrive early so everyone can sail in the afternoon.  Bring you hull to be weighed and equipment as necessary.

NOWRA MARATHON.  The Nowra Marathon is the next Traveller’s Trophy on 30 January 2022.  The latest results and progress scores for the TTs, is on the website for you to check out.  Don’t forget there are plenty of drops so you can still have a go and be competitive.

REPORTS.

STATES at Oak Flats S.C. 27-28 November.  Saturday was wild with plenty of capsizes and we light weights just surviving rather than racing.  Amazingly some of the tiny children from the host club survived the afternoon on 4.5s!  Heat one was also at Traveller’s Trophy (TT) race.  Even if the committee had decided to try for a third race I doubt if many would have stayed out for it!  Sunday was still windy but at least we could all mostly race rather than just survive.  A big thank you to Steve Gough who volunteered as PRO for the weekend and to the club who ran an excellent series in trying conditions and also put on amazing meals, especially on the Saturday night.  Congratulations to Chris EDDES on his first place along with Shane Conly and Gra Baker in 2md and 3rd respectively.  Full results will be on the website as will an updated TT result sheet.  Trophy plates will be available soon.  An additional thank you to the Historic Aircraft Restoration Society at Albion Park who put on additional entertainment in an air show over the weekend. It was a shame we were all too busy surviving in the strong wind to get a better look.  At least we did not have to see the FA18 and F35A as they made so much noise!

TT Heat 5, Dobroyd Aquatic Club. The big winds turned up again for this heat at the friendly DAC club on Saturday 11th. Despite its secluded location the afternoon saw a steady 20 knots gusting close to 30 which provided some great off-wind rides on the relatively flat water. Capsizes were common and unfortunately a broken mast into the mix. Peter Eslick sailed well to take it from Grahame Tindall and Grae Baker. Well ton to Tim V as the only non-Sydney sailor to make the trip.

SPIRALS URGENTLY NEEDEDNarrabeen Lakes sailing club is looking for Spirals, as is the Callala Bay Sailing School. This is a great chance to get more people in our class so if you know of unused Spirals please encourage the owners to sell them through the Association or donate them.  Callala wants to also get 4.5s and 5.6 rigs so again we need broken Spiral bottom sections, and even Laser top sections and Laser radial bottom sections (they have a smaller outside diameter than the full rig and will fit the Spiral mast tube.)  They also want complete boats or at least hulls.  Please tell a committee member if you can help, or contact me.

Have a wonderful Christmas and we all hope 2022 will be more free of lockdowns and Covid and the sailing will be good.  Keep well.
