SPASC's Adult Learn to Sail Program is calling for Expressions of Interest for a potential course in early 2024. Designed for adults, the course provides the sailing basics together with a gradual transition from sailing lessons to racing.
Speers Point Amateur Sailing Club (SPASC) is an accredited Australian Sailing "Discover Centre" (DCS) with accredited Dinghy Instructors. DSC’s adhere to standards that ensure safety and customer satisfaction, in order to attain and retain this status. With a range of courses and coaching SPASC has a pathway to take to sailors with very little sailing experience to a competitive racing level.
Dinghy Sailing - Dinghies courses are tailored for both teenagers and adults and involve sailing on small exhilarating boats (one or two crew). Dinghies represent an ideal learning platform because thanks to their small size participants are safe and in full control of all sailing aspects. In more experienced hands though dinghies become action-packed boats suitable for sailors looking for a thrilling sail!
We run our Adult Learn to Sail courses about twice a year, when we have sufficient numbers to justify running the courses. The course offered is "Start Sailing 1", at a cost of $450 per person, plus $200 club membership. The course is run over a ten week period with 2 hour sessions from 11.00am until 1.00pm on Saturdays, and involves a mixture of classroom learning, sailing exercises, occasional racing and cruising to a destination.
Sailing classes in our Adult Learn to Sail Program involve O’pen Skiffs, Lasers and Tasers, which are provided by SPASC. All the equipment, including the boats, is provided for this course and Club boats can be chartered for use. After completion of this course, you will be able to participate in our Friday Twilight Laser Series or Saturday afternoon race series either as a crew or skipper to gain more practice and improve your skills
Eligible persons must be either SPASC Family, Senior, Student or Junior members.
