Speers Point Amateur Sailing Club (SPASC) is an accredited Australian Sailing "Discover Centre" (DSC) with accredited Dinghy Instructors.  DSC’s adhere to standards that ensure safety and customer satisfaction, in order to attain and retain this status.  With a range of courses and coaching SPASC has a pathway to take to sailors with very little sailing experience to a competitive racing level.

SPASC commenced its Junior Sailing Program in 2021, providing an exciting introduction to the thrill of sailing for junior members.  With a range of courses and coaching SPASC has a pathway to take to junior sailors with very little sailing experience to a competitive racing level.  We understand that racing is not for everyone so we ensure that we include fun learning games and adventure sails into our program

We plan to hold the following Junior Sailing Programs for our 2023/24 sailing season, and we are seeking expressions of interest -

1. The Australian Sailing "Start Sailing 1 & 2 Program" and "Green Fleet Coaching Program" will commence on Saturday mornings from 21 October 2023, and are designed for kids aged 8 to 17 years, designed to cement the foundation skills learned to date and prepare them for club racing in an environment where the focus is on fun and enjoyment.   Syllabus includes classroom learning, cruising to a destination, sailing exercises, sailing adventure games and club racing.

2. The SPASC "Junior Friday Twilight Sailing Series" will commence on Friday afternoons from 6 October 2023,is designed for competent junior sailors aged 10 to 17 that have completed the Green Fleet Program or can demonstrate competent sailing foundation skills in winds of 15 knots or more.  This program includes One Race of a triangle and windward return course, followed by Adventure Games according to the SPASC Friday Twilight Junior Race Fleet sailing instructions.

3. The SPASC "Junior Saturday Racing Series" is designed for students aged 10 to 17 years who have completed the Green Fleet Program and can demonstrate the necessary sailing skills and competencies to compete within a standard racing course.

   If kids want to do more racing, they move from Green Fleet into Junior Club Racing, which is held on Saturday afternoons and our Friday Twilight Series.

Current Junior Sailing Programs involve Optimists, O’pen Skiffs and Laser classes, which are provided by SPASC.  Younger kids will always start in an Optimist, as this is the most stable design.  All the equipment, including the boats, is provided for this course and Club boats can be chartered for use.

Eligible persons must be either SPASC Family or Junior members.
