One Athletics Proposal
Athletics Australia and Little Athletics Australia to Unite
Athletics Australia and Little Athletics Australia today announced a proposed merger between the two organisations — the OneAthletics Proposal will create a new National Sporting Organisation to be responsible for athletics in Australia. A successful merger will see athletics transformed into one of the biggest participation sports in the country and will ensure a clear and logical pathway for athletes, coaches and officials throughout their life in sport.
Please refer to the ANSW website for more detail of the exciting announcement - https://www.nswathletics.org.au/news/oneathletics-proposal/
Over the next 12 months, the two organisations will enter a process to develop a transition plan to create one national organisation, with one constitution and one board.
What does this mean for Athletics in NSW?
ANSW, LANSW, NSW Masters and the NSW Office of Sport have been working together for several years via an NSW Athletics Joint Working Party. The work to this point has been constructive with much attention focused on the strategy around athletics as one sport in NSW. The objective of the Joint Working Party for athletics in NSW has recently turned to operational delivery and timelines, including consideration for the end goal of creating one athletics body in NSW.
OneAthletics will positively contribute to the momentum for full integration at the NSW level. The Joint Working Party, LANSW Board and ANSW Board will continue to meet, with the next steps becoming a matter of priority.
ANSW and LANSW will coordinate a consultative process with all member Clubs/Centres, athletes and stakeholders regarding the OneAthletics project in the near future.
