Shoalhaven Summer Hockey 2024
A mixed summer twilight competition is being run on a Wednesday evening at the Shoalhaven Hockey Field in North Nowra. Commencing Wednesday 16th October 2024 for players 14 and over. The compeition will run for 10 weeks, finishing on Wednesday 18th December.
Registering
Please forward names of interested players to Vanessa Phelan (vanessaphelan1171@gmail.com) by Wednesday 9th October. If you would like to play with friends please include the list of players wanting to play together. Teams will be selected with the aim to create teams of even ability. Teams will be announced on this website the Friday before the competition starts.
Umpiring Duty
If you are playing the last game, your team has the 6pm umpiring duty. If you have the 6pm game, your team will have the 7pm umpiring duty. And, if you have the 7pm game, your team has the 8pm umpiring duty. Umpires will receive $10 a game. This competition is a great opportunity for learning umpiring skills. If you are uncertain, more advanced umpires can be arranged to assit you.
Fees
Insurance - if you didn't play in the 2024 winter season in NSW you will be required to pay an insurance (registration) fee with Hockey NSW. Please click here to and select the appropriate registration (U18 $41.95 + $25 game fee or senior $61.34 + $25 game fee).
Playing Fee (existing players) - please bring $50 on your first game, this will cover the turf hire and umpiring. If you decide to play after the competition starts, the games will be $10 each (up to $50 in total).
Playing Fee (new players) - the playing fee is included in the registration, this will cover the turf hire and umpiring.
If you umpired last year, you will have a credit, please ask Vanessa to find out how much.

Game Structure
Teams will field a minimum of 8 players (4 men and 4 women). If both teams have more than 8 fields players available, additional players can take the field up to 10 field players. Both teams will have the same number of players on the field. The southern 23m quarter will be for men only and the northern 23m quarter will be for women only. The games will be made up of 12 minute quarters with a 2 minute break between 1st & 2nd and 3rd & 4th quarters, at half time there will be a five minute break and the teams will swap ends.
Penalty corners and strokes will be played as a corner and taken by the attacking team on the 23m line. To keep it safe for new players, there will be no raised balls (overheads).
