2022 Competition Update
Dear Members,
Obviously with the horrendous weather we have experienced over the last few weeks it has been a challenge to bring everything together for the start of the Winter Competition but we are on track to commence the competition as scheduled. This is a brief update for members.
Work at the Hockey Centre- Work to replace the mat on the Bedson/Isedale filed was completed 2 weeks ago just before the current rain started. Polytan’s equipment was removed last weekend and Council completed their final inspection yesterday. So we will be clear to re-open the Hockey Centre next week. There is a lot to be done to re-grass around the work and material storage areas and clean up the mud on the driveways leading into the centre and need the weather to clear for this to happen.
This work is aside from trying to mow the facility which hasn’t been able to be done now for 4 weeks. So the Hockey Centre is certainly not in the best shape visually but the fields will be fine for play. A couple of photos of what we are dealing with are attached.
We will be roping off sections to restrict access to damaged and muddy areas and ask when the centre opens that everyone keeps to the pathways and players ensure their shoes are clean before walking on the field.
Work will also be completed later this week on the full refurbishment of the toilets which will be a huge improvement of the facilities.
Season Start- The season will commence as scheduled with the Women’s competition on the 17th March. Juniors will start on the night of the 21st March with the Under 13’s and the first weeks draws will issue early next week. The draw will issue on a week to week basis up to week 6, and the season schedule appearing on our website under 2022 Winter Season provides all the information of when you are playing.
Club Training- Due to the state of the Hockey Centre and to limit the people traffic through the facility until we get some cleanup work completed, the start of Club training has been deferred until the week of the 21st March. We understand that this will be frustrating for Clubs as it is for the Executive Committee especially considering the last 2 years of disruption we’ve experienced, but it is to protect the fields from damage due to mud being walked on. We hope to have work completed by Thursday once the women commence and then be ready for training the following week.
We will continue to update Clubs with draws and any other details over the coming week.
Regards
