OFFICIAL CODE OF CONDUCT (Updated May 2023)
The Code of Conduct is based on policy from Hockey Australia and adopted by Hockey Queensland and Cairns Hockey Association. It sets out the expectations of Players, Coaches/Managers, Parents/Carers & Spectators. A breach of the Code of Conduct will result in a range of consequences, decided upon by a Committee comprised of the Club President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Junior Coordinator and Team Coach. If you are concerned about a breach of our Code of Conduct, review our Complaint Policy and/or speak with a member of the Souths Hockey Committee.
PLAYERS

Play by the rules. Take responsibility for own conduct and performance.

Never argue with the umpire’s decision. Seek clarification through your captain who is the only player allowed to address umpire’s and officials during a match.

Control your temper, on and off the field, including gestures, sledging and/or distraction and provoking an opponent.

Work equally hard for yourself and your team. Your team's performance will benefit and so will you.

Good sportsmanship is essential between your team and opposition.

Show respect for yourself, your teammates, your coach and manager, the opposition, and officials. Shake hands and acknowledge after the game.

Respectfully raise concerns with your coach or manager and constructively contribute to the resolution of issues.

Behave in a manner that respects the rights of others regardless of gender, age, ability, and cultural background.

Behave in a manner that respects the rights of others on all digital and social media platforms.

Smoking/vaping, drinking of alcohol by minors, and the use of any illegal substance is strictly prohibited on CHA grounds.
COACH AND MANAGER

Coaching should be conducted in a positive and encouraging manner and players should be kept as active as possible.

Players should be introduced to a variety of roles and playing positions.

Promote fair play, cooperation, teamwork and team spirit.
PARENT/CARER

Cooperate with Souths Hockey Club to achieve the best outcomes for your player

Control your temper, including gestures, sledging and/or distraction and provoking an opponent.

Support the team, Coach and Manager in maintaining a safe and respectful environment for the players.

Maintain positive relationships with team coaches and managers regarding your child's playing, learning and conduct

Encourage participation by your children. This includes weekly training sessions and any courses run by CHA to provide support for coaching or umpiring.

Provide a model of good sportsmanship.

Be courteous and constructive with players, coaches, managers, and sports administrators.

Encourage honesty, skills and team loyalty.

Make other parents/carers feel welcome on all occasions.

Do not interfere with the conduct or organisation of any events.

SPECTATOR

Never argue with the umpire’s decision.

Do not disrupt the Coach or Manager throughout the event.

Support the team with generous applause and positive support.

Demonstrate respect for the opposition and all officials.

Behave in a manner that respects the rights of others regardless of gender, age, ability, and cultural background.
SOUTHS HOCKEY COMPLAINTS PROCESS
If you cannot resolve any issues with your Coach/Manager at Team level, issues can be escalated to the Committee by emailing either southshockeyclub@outlook.com or secretary@southshockey.net.au . These issues will be then decided upon by the Committee whether to resolve within the Club or to be further escalated to Cairns Hockey Association. All complaints will be resolved and notified in due course.
