Sunshine Coast Dragon Boat & Outrigger Canoe Club History

In 2005 The Sunshine Coast Dragon Boat Club was incorporated

The club started out as a Breast Cancer Survivor club, with one of its founding members being Deb Matthews.

“Pricilla Queen of the Lake” was the name of the boat that was used for training and was stored on the sands of Lake Kawana just south of the now Community Centre (this boat was donated to a youth group and is now located at Lake Cressbrook youth camp near Toowoomba)

The 2006-2007 season, saw the club developing into a Sports Club, supporting Breast Cancer Survivors. At this time a grant was successful and two Champion Boats as well as a boat trailer were purchased by the club, with this additional equipment, a change to the storage of the boats came and up until “The Shed” was erected in 2009 the boats & trailer were stored on what was then “Stockland’s Land”

Over the years the club has been very successful with obtaining grants for additional equipment

Deb Matthews (one of the founding members) has been a stalwart of the club obtaining her coaching accreditation and leading the club to many successful international / national / state and local competitions since 2009

The club has recognised Roger Benton, John Matthews, Deb Matthew and Sue Bray for their ongoing services to the club with Life Memberships
