Josh Deegan Senior Award
Commencing season 2019/20 players from senior men’s and women’s teams will be eligible for the Josh Deegan Award.
Josh Deegan played for Sturt Baseball Club. Josh sadly died in the Bali night club bombing in 2002. The Deegan family have agreed to support this award in honour of their son.
One player from each senior men’s and women’s teams can be nominated for the Josh Deegan Award. Nominees must exemplify Josh's qualities.
The following 5 criteria will form the basis of the final selection:
- Sportsmanship | Josh always accepted the umpire’s decision, never argued and always displayed good sportsmanship to opposition players.
- Respect | Never did Josh show disrespect to anybody whether an official, player or friends. He respected everyone's right to their point of view even when it differed from his.
- Hard work | Josh continually worked hard at training both organised and personal and never looked for the shortcut.
- Politeness | Josh was always polite when meeting strangers or in group gatherings. He would never "grandstand" for attention.
- Consideration for Others | Josh would always consider others feelings in anything he did.
The Management Committee mak a decision as to who is to receive the award each season.
