This course is Nationally recognised by Australian Sailing. Due to the weather conditions here in Hobart, Sandy Bay Sailing Club (SBSC) adapts the curriculum to best suit the weather on hand. Most objectives are delivered during the said course; however, in some courses the objectives may be fluid between the Level 1 and Level 2 courses. SBSC does this to ensure the best possible safety of all participants as well as provide an optimum first taste of the sport for your budding sailor!

Course Overview
This course aims to provide children aged 7-12 with a fun, safe and affordable way to get into sailing, as part of the Sporting Schools Program.

Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who wish to have fun and learn the basics of sailing through games on and off the water.
Course Outcome
Tackers 1: Sporting Schools students will learn:

Basic sailing safety, rules and procedures

To launch and retrieve their own boat

Understand how the boat floats and what to do if water is taken on-board

Understand what the different roles are in the boat (skipper and crew)

Participate in an array of sailing-based games

Understand the freedom and responsibility sailing provides

Learn some of the tricks and techniques to sail in a fun and games based approach

Gain an in-depth understanding of the different roles within the boat and be able to put them into practice

Understand how the wind affects the boat

Understand tide and weather conditions

To right their boat after a capsize (flip over)

The fundamentals to sail their boat under supervision with a partner
You will gain your Tackers 1 (Sporting Schools) completion certificate.
