Who are your Queensland Sailing Community Legends?

Published Wed 28 Jul 2021

Queensland has been pretty lucky this year for Covid-19 restrictions which means our sailors, officials, volunteers and clubs have been doing some amazing things!

Nominations are now open for the 2021 Queensland Sailing Awards and close on Friday 13th August, which means there is just over two weeks left to nominate the key people in your club for the many different award categories. So make your list, get writing and recognise the people who make a difference! You can find all the information here: https://www.sailing.org.au/community/sailing-awards/  and download the award criteria at the bottom of this article.

If you need any assistance, please don’t hesitate to give Annie Watson a call on 0409065083 or email to annie.watson@sailing.org.au

If you need some inspiration to find the time to nominate someone in your club here is what the winner of the Sports Professional Award for 2020 thought about being nominated and winning an award at the Queensland Sailing Awards.

Robert Preston South Brisbane Sailing Club

I would like to thank you for the privilege of being recognised as Winner of the 2020 Sports Professional of the Year Award, and for the well organised, well publicised, professional and inclusive event.

I am aware of the strong and positive implications that this recognition has for the class associations (ns14 and heron), and the sailing clubs (SBSC, TVSC and DPSS) I am a member of.

The award is something my peers and associates feel proud of, because it reflects a growing conviction that the grassroots sailing movement can regrow to become a visible and sustainable sport that is accessible to a diversity of people looking for a different way to be involved in active outdoor pursuits, and meaningful social connections in a time of great change.

I am convinced, more than ever, that the goals and capacity of Australian Sailing are aligned with the ambitions of its members and the needs of the society we serve.
