Following the launch of the Instructor, Coach, Official Development Strategy, we are pleased to share an update on recent developments.

Australian Sailing are pleased to announce two exciting new initiatives in regional Queensland. In conjunction with Townsville Sailing Club we will be hosting a 2 day coaching clinic followed by a new regatta called North Sail in the June/July School holidays.

The Australian Sailing Awards have been the premier off-water celebration nation-wide for several decades. In 2014, the categories of, Instructor of the Year and Coach of the Year, were added with nominations being given by State Associations.

In line with the commitment to support development of youth sailors in collaboration with class associations, Australian Sailing is calling for expressions of interest for Coaching Support Staff for Youth Squad Camp and international regattas in 2024.

Three renowned coaches have been announced as finalists for the national Coach of the Year award, with the winner to be announced on November 3 at the Australian Sailing Awards.

Developing coaches is a key priority for Australian Sailing and a key factor in the ongoing growth of sailing nationally. During this year’s Zhik Lake Mac Youth Sail NSW the team of nine coaches gathered at the end of each day to de-brief the day’s activities, successes, and areas for improvement.

Coach development is a priority at Zhik Youth Sail events around the country, with the Zhik Youth Sail QLD event leading the charge and providing specialised support and professional development opportunities to 27 coaches from across QLD, NT and the Solomon Islands.

Whether you have heard of the Kids TV program “Bluey’s” or not the lesson to be taken away from the 7 minute episode released in June called “Cricket” can actually be seen from a coaches perspective in a very practical way and from sailing community in general as a way to look at the sport as a whole.
