SMALL BOATS WORK THEIR MAGIC FOR LINDISFARNE SAILING CLUB FAMILY - Teamwork!

Published Thu 28 Nov 2024

This is the most wonderful story of brothers Keith and George Jansen, club stalwart Anthony Morgan and their dedication to their newfound love…. sailing and boatbuilding.

After a learn to sail program, both Keith and George were given the opportunity to own their own Sabots, but the boats need some tender loving care. Over the winter, Keith, George, club member Anthony and family worked on the two rather tired Sabots.

Luckily, both boats had been exceptionally well built originally and just needed to be given an upgrade. Over the winter months both boys and their Dad, Scott, worked on the boats under the expert guidance of Anthony coming to my workshop twice weekly to learn how to upgrade their boats.

On Salty Too a new King Billy trim was added to the gunwhales machined from the old seats of the same boat. The interior was stripped and painted to showcase the beautiful original cedar buoyancy tanks. Externally, the hull was revitalized and George chose a striking maroon red to highlight the beautiful dark timbers.

Keith's boat had significant structural issues with a major repair needed of a large crack in the side. After Keith, his father and grandfather stripped the hull externally, a total of 13 repaired holes were found, leading to the suggestion that the boat be renamed Dodgem Car!

George, Keith, their family and Anthony are justifiably proud of their amazing work and both boats are to be displayed in the Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart in Feb 2025.

Pictures show George with the fruits of his hard work on Salty Too.

All at Lindisfarne Sailing Club are incredibly proud to have the Jansens as part of their sailing community. We wish them a lifetime of sailing joy.
