Volunteering at RAC Meets

Rural Athletics Centre is a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers, including our coaches. Our Committee consists of volunteers (majority of who also have children competing, and in most cases they are also athletes themselves, coaches and/or officials - or all of the above!) who are responsible for coordinating regular competition meets.

We understand that many parents may not have been involved in Athletics before. Don’t worry, we all started out as new parents not knowing what to do or what advice to give. Our committee members and our experienced parents are on hand to help you.

We need help each week at our competitions in the following ways:

  • Set up and pack up the equipment used on the grounds on competition mornings
  • Working on the information desk/canteen and on the BBQ
  • Assisting with recording results and measuring at event sites.  Being amongst the action gives you the best vantage point to watch your child!

Whilst we are not affiliated with Little Athletics Australia, Little Athletics SA has developed the “How to Help At Little Athletics (SA)” guide. This describes most events offered at RAC and how you might be able to help each event run smoothly.

Athletics NT have also put together a "Know Athletics Events" guide for officiating track and field events.  We have laminated copies of these guides at the RAC information desk for you to look at.

We understand that just like our athletes, our parents come from a diverse range of backgrounds and have different talents and experience — you may have skills that our organisation doesn’t even know we need. So if you think you can help, please let the committee know!
