Welcome Afternoon
The SKP Welcome afternoon will be held on Tuesady 14 July at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron and be a combination of on-water training and an information session.
The on-water component will allow the sailors to train on the Squadron's fleet of Elliott 7s and the session will be run by the program's head coach, Nev Wittey.
After the on-water session, the information session will be held in one of the club's meeting rooms. This session will be used to outline the plan for the up-coming season and address any questions sailors might have. Parents of junior squad sailors are invited to attend the information session.
Date: Tuesday 14 July 2020
Timings: 15:00 - 19:00 (On-water = 15:00-18:00, Information Session = 18:00-19:00)
Location: Youth Training Room, Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron (Information Session may be moved to a larger room depending on numbers)
Required Gear: Clothing suitable for sailing a keel boat (long sleeve sports top, board/sailing shorts, enclosed shoes, sailing gloves, hat, etc.), Wet/cold weather gear, towel and change of clothes.
Program Overview
The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron’s Squadron Keelboat program (SKP) was founded in 2000 as an opportunity for youth sailors aged between 13 – 23 years to become involved in keelboat racing at a state, national and international level.
Open to both members and non-members the program utilises the Squadron’s fleet of Elliott 7s sport’s boats and is coached by America’s Cup skipper and Olympian, Nev Wittey.
Focused on developing the sailor's keelboat handling skills with both symmetrical and asymmetrical spinnakers, the program provides the opportunity to compete at a wide range of events including several regattas on the youth match racing circuit and within the Sailing Champions League.
Compulsory training sessions for the SKP squad's will be held on Mondays and the in-house grade 5 match racing events will typically be held on Monday afternoon's.
