Start Powerboating
The Start Powerboating course is ideal introductory boating course offering both theory and onwater boat handling instruction. This 12 hour course is suitable for students and adults from 12 years with the emphasis on safety and boat training.
The online component of this course will be conducted on Wednesday 29 January 2025 at 1800-2100. Participants will be sent a link to the webinar once registered.
The practical component will be condcuted at RSYS on Saturday 1st February 2025 at 0830-16.30
The course is part of the nationally recognised Australian Sailing training scheme and is delivered by accredited instructors with extensive boating and training experience. The Start Powerboating course is recognised in by NSW Roads and Maritime as an approved boat training course. Successful completion will allow students to apply for their Recreational Boat Licence without further testing (Govt. fees apply).

Intermeidate/Metropolitian Member or Youth Member with an RSYS Member Parent/Grandparent $210.00
Non-RSYS Members or Youth Member without a RSYS Member Parent/Grandparent $263.00

* Use of the Club’s support boats during the course
Pre requisites
No experience is required to attend the course however participants are required to successfully complete the online General Boat Knowledge Quiz
www.boatingquiz.com.au prior to the start of the course. Please print the final results page of the quiz and bring with you to the course.
Location
Theory component will be condcuted online on Wednesday evenings - a link will be emailed to you once you are registered. The practical component of this course will be held at the Royal Syndey Yacht Squadron. Participants need to bring their own food and water for the day. Wear clothes that you do not mind getting wet.
Course Overview
Your powerboating pathway begins here, introducing you to practical driving skills, trip planning, boat maintenance, safety equipment and dealing with emergency situations. In some instances, you can take your completion certificate to your State Maritime Regulator and gain the State Boat License.
Course Prerequisites
Water confident.
Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who wish to drive a powerboat, following the course you will have sufficient skills and knowledge to skipper a small powerboat. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.
Course Outcome
You will gain your Start Powerboating completion certificate.
