Course information
The Safety Boat Operator Course provides the skills needed to support water-based activities at your club, such as racing or learning to sail activities.
The course will go over: equipment selection, racecourse design, communication techniques, the rescue of other craft and persons, and mark laying techniques.
Please be aware that the theory component of this course will be conducted online. Participants will be sent a link to the online webinar once they have registered.
The course is part of the nationally recognised Australian Sailing training scheme and is delivered by accredited instructors with extensive boating and training experience.
Cost
Intermeidate/Metropolitian Member or Youth Member with an RSYS Member Parent/Grandparent $210.00
Non-RSYS Members or Youth Member without a RSYS Member Parent/Grandparent $263.00
Pre requisites
Water confident. The skills and knowledge gained in Powerboat Handling or equivalent powerboating experience.
Location
The practical component of this course will be held at the Royal Syndey Yacht Squadron. Participants need to bring their own food and water for the day. Wear clothes that you do not mind getting wet.
Course Overview
This course provides the skills needed to support water-based activities at clubs, schools and outdoor recreation centres. You'll learn about race course design, practise on-water rescue of dinghies and gain an awareness of techniques to support kite surfers and kayaks.
Course Prerequisites
Water confident. The skills and knowledge gained in Powerboat Handling or equivalent power boating experience.
Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who wish to support their Sailing Club as a support boat for either racing or learn to sail courses. This course is also a prerequisite for becoming a Sailing Coach.
Course Outcome
You will gain your Safety Boat Operator completion certificate.
