Course Overview
'Tackers' is an Australian Sailing national program for kids between the ages of 7-12. It is aimed at introducing children to sailing in a fun, safe way within a three-level format. All courses are conducted by fully qualified Australian Sailing Instructors & Assistant Instructors and RSYS is an accredited Discover Sailing Centre.
Tackers 3 is the final tackers level, for those who have completed Tackers 1 & 2. Sailors will develop advanced sailing skills through activities and adventures on the water.
Boats are provided by RSYS and are specifically designed for children learning to sail.
Although Life Jackets are also provided to each sailor, all children must be able to confidently swim 50 meters. You will receive an email upon registration with additional information on what to wear and bring along to the Discover Sailing Tackers Course.

Term Fees
Non-RSYS Member Parent/Grandparent $750.00
RSYS Club Member Parent/Grandparent $600.00 - please complete your membership details in the registration.

Course Overview
This course aims to build on skills learned in Tackers 2 and focuses on advanced sailing skills through games and adventures on the water.
Course Prerequisites
- Water confident
- 7-12 years-old
- Skills, knowledge and experience gained in Tackers 2
Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who have completed Tackers 2.
Course Outcome
By the end of the Tackers 3 course, the participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate the correct method and understand the theory of roll tacking and gybing
- Stopping the boat in a confined areas for a period of time
- Sail backwards
- Understand the theory behind gybing and can demonstrate the action downwind
- Show a sound knowledge of the five essentials:
- Centreboard position
- Boat trim
- Boat balance
- Course made good
- Sail trim
- Start and finish races on a triangle and trapezoid course
- Always use tactical mark roundings in races
You will gain your Tackers 3 completion certificate.
