Powerboat Handling:

This course will help build skills for the safe use of small powerboats. Areas covered in the course include Pre-departure checks, engine and fuel checks, course navigation and passage planning, man overboard recovery, boat handling techniques in swells and waves, towing.

The Powerboat Handling course is an ideal follow up to the introductory Start Powerboating course and provides both theory and on-water boat handling instruction. This course is suitable for students and adults from 12 years who already have their Powerboat licence with the emphasis on safety and boat training.

The course is part of the nationally recognised Australian Sailing training scheme and is delivered by accredited instructors with extensive boating and training experience. The course is a pre requisite for those wanting to become a Dinghy Instructor.

Participants are required to successfully complete the online General Boat Knowledge Quiz
www.boatingquiz.com.au prior to the start of the course. Please print the final results page of the quiz and bring with you to the course.

Participants are also required to complete a powerboat assessment in advance of the course, which will be emailed to you. 

Location
The theory component will be conducted via Zoom on the 31st March 2023 at 1730-2030. The practical component of this course will be held at the Royal Syndey Yacht Squadron on the 1st April 2023 at 0900-17.00. Participants need to bring their own food and water for the day. Wear clothes that you do not mind getting wet.


Course Overview
This one-day course is designed to improve your boat handling skills, especially in confined areas such as marinas and in swell and waves. You will learn more about engines and types of crafts and practise navigation techniques on a passage. In some instances, you can take your completion certificate to your State Maritime Regulator and gain the State Boat License. 

Course Prerequisites

Water confident. The skills and knowledge gained in Start Powerboating or equivalent power boating experience.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to further develop their powerboat driving skills. This course is also a prerequisite for becoming a Dinghy and/or Windsurfing Instructor.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Powerboat Handling completion certificate.
