Course Description: Introduction to Hansa Sailing
Dive into the world of Hansa sailing with our introductory course, perfect for beginners who want to experience the joy of sailing in a supportive and inclusive setting. This course is designed to help participants learn the basics of sailing while enjoying a safe and fun time on the water.
Boats Available:
- Hansa 303 Dinghies: Sail with your support person. Participants should feel comfortable being on the water as they sail with thir support person, guided by experienced instructors and Sailiability WA Volunteers..
- Hansa Liberties: For experienced sailors looking to sail solo, offering a more advanced and independent sailing experience.
Course Overview:
- Learn fundamental sailing skills tailored to Hansa boats.
- Familiarize yourself with sailing terminology, equipment, and boat handling techniques.
- Practice essential skills such as launching and returning to shore, tacking and gybing.
Course Prerequisites:
- Participants must be confident in the water.
Who Should Take This Course?
- This course is ideal for anyone eager to start sailing in Hansa boats. All equipment and gear will be provided by RPYC and Sailability WA.

Course Overview
This course introduces participants to dinghy sailing and its fundamental skills so they learn terminology and equipment and practice launching and returning to shore and capsize recovery.
Course Prerequisites
Water confident.
Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who wish to begin sailing in a dinghy. All the equipment and gear will be provided by your accredited Discover Sailing Centre.
Course Outcome
You will gain your Start Sailing 1 completion certificate.
We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here.
