Youth Programs
Commercial Rowing Club offers programs to enthusiastic and committed youths to assist them to improve their rowing skills and fitness in a club environment.
Commercial Rowing Club has a long tradition of producing exceptional rowers, including World Champions and Olympians.
CRC offers two programs for youth:
- CRC Youth Development Program - for those still at school, between the ages of 15 and 18 years
- CRC High-Performance Youth Program - for those who have finished school and are under 23 years of age
1. CRC Youth Development Program
This program runs twice yearly - for approximately 22 weeks in the Summer Season (October to March, in line with school terms 4 and 1) and similarly in the Winter Season (April to September, school terms 2 and 3).
Primary Focus
- to foster a life-time engagement between the athlete and CRC and the sport of rowing
What does success look like?
- for the athlete and their family - positive and fun environment where the athlete achieves their rowing objectives
- for the club - engaged athletes continue their rowing journey with the club for many years beyond school
Committment
The program focuses on athletes' improving their technique and skills in a range of boat classes and improving their fitness in a structured training program. The goal is to consolidate their skills in different boat classes with the intention of competing for CRC at regattas.
Athletes accepted in to these programs should expect to attend at least 75% of the training sessions including land training sessions to maximise their potential.
Cost
The 22 week program cost is $1330 including the Rowing Qld Registration fee of $78.
Additonal requirements include a CRC zootie ($90), Club t-shirt ($35), cap or visor ($25).
Summer Season Youth Program:
This program provides athletes with the opportunity to race for CRC at local regattas, culminating in the Qld State Championships in late January. High-performing athletes may be invited to race for CRC at other regattas including the NSW State Championships and the Australian National Championships. Such invitations are determined by the coaches.
Winter Season Youth Program:
The Winter Season youth program is aimed at athletes to continue to support their skill acquistion and skill development. Opportunties to race at regattas including head races and coastal rowing are possible.
2. CRC High-Performance Youth Program
This program is directed towards athletes who have finished school and are under 23 years of age. Its primary focus is to prepare athletes for competing for representative honors and for elite level open-age competiton.

To ensure the quality of the programs, the number of athletes will be capped.
If required, preference will be given to continuing members.
