About

Commercial Rowing Club was established in 1877 and is Queensland’s oldest amateur sporting club. We have built a solid reputation as a premier racing club and over the years many of our athletes have represented Australia in International competitions including World and Olympic Championships.

The club aims:

  • To be known as a competitive rowing club
  • To assist all its members to achieve their potential in the sport of rowing within a friendly and supportive environment
  • To maintain a strong and viable financial position

We are a growing club with members ranging in age from school-age rowers to more mature and mellow members.

We have a high quality fleet of boats from singles to eights for both males and females and in all weight categories. The club also has a small gym on-site and ergs that are available for members' use.

We offer a variety of rowing programs including:

  •  School boy/girl rowing – we provide coaching for school girl and school boy rowers (14 yrs+) for on-water and off-water fitness and skill development. If you are interested in programs please find details in the link at the top of the page
  • Adult Learn-to-row – we provide coaching for people over the age of 18 yrs who want to learn how to row.
  • Competitive rowing – we support Juniors, Youth, Open and Masters athletes who wish to perform at local, state, national and international rowing regattas
  • Social rowing – we provide support and guidance for those rowers who only wish “to go for a paddle”
  • Indoor rowing - for all ages and no rowing experience required

We participate in local Rowing Qld and Northern NSW regattas throughout the year and usually have a strong contingent competing in winter/spring racing on the Brisbane River.  We also participate in selected interstate regattas, and at the National Championships. An annual pilgrimage to Melbourne for the Head of the Yarra occurs in November when we are strongly represented in many divisions there.

The club is usually open every morning between 5am and 7:30am as most members tend to row before going to work or school. The club house has showers and change-rooms and nearby cafes enable members to socialize and have a bite to eat after the morning session. The club is also often open in the late afternoons and evenings for members to train in the gym or socialize in the club room.

The Club is proud to announce the establishment of the 1877 Club.  This is an exclusive group for all those interested in supporting the Club in its Vision for the future. 1877 Club members  contribute financially to various projects including providing mentorship and support to coaches and athletes, purchasing special equipment and have the opportunity to retain connections with past crews and supporters.
