This course will run on Sunday 2nd, 9th, 16th & 23rd February 2025. It's a 16h minimum course.

BECAREFULL, as we want you to participate on a race the day 4, starting time may not be the same than the others days and day may change depending on race opportunity. It'll be discussed with the group.

If you dream of joining a club and racing amongst the fleet, this course is for you. By this stage in our keelboat program, participants are ready to learn racing maneuvres, crew positioning, pre-start, tacking, gybing and rounding markers on a course and use a spinnaker.
Racing requires the helm and crew to operate sail controls and achieve optimal sail shape in various conditions. This course will build on effective teamwork and communication, advancing each sailor’s skill to be on board during a race.
Program:
  • Day 1: theory in class:
    • start and finish: flag and procedure, strategy
    • use of ladder rungs, strategy for 1st beat
    • use of ladder rungs, strategy 1st downwind
    • concept of layline and gain or loss
    • racing rules: 10,11
  • Day 2: on water manoeuvres:
    • Communication and fast tack
    • Weight and position onboard
    • Sails best shape
  • Day 3: on water spinnaker manoeuvres:
    • Fast work on spinnaker
    • Best practice for fast and safe gybe under spinnaker
    • Spinnaker shape and trim
    • Fast hoist and drop  
  • Day 4: on water race

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to begin racing in a keelboat and have achieved Start skippering and Spinnaker courses.

Course Outcome

You will gain your Racing level 1 completion certificate.

Program Focus:

The Advanced Fleet Program is designed to enable participants to train to compete.
