This Start Racing Dinghy course will be held on Sunday 9th, 16th & 23rd February 2025

Course Inclusions

  • 12 hours of tuition with an Australian Sailing-qualified Instructor.
  • Sailing dinghies and lifejackets.
  • The certificate and photos will emailed on the last day.

More Information

Start Racing Dinghy is designed to join the excitement and challenge of competition where you'll dive into the fundamentals of racing!

Topics covered include the basics of:

  • Able to rig boat for optimal performance in current conditions
  • Mark all sail controls to enable accurate setting
  • Can perform over the gunwale capsize recovery
  • Demonstrate an understanding of starting procedures
  • Identify line bias and favoured end
  • Perform starts in accordance with start signals
  • Understand boat trim, balance & centreboard position on all legs of the racing course
  • Adjust sail shape in response to changing conditions
  • Observe rules covering starting, mark rounding, overlaps, penalties, on same tack, on opposite tacks and obstructions while racing

Course Prerequisites

Water confident and you should have the skills, knowledge and experience gained from the Better Sailing course.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for participants who wish to learn the basics of racing and begin competing at club-level races. 

Course Outcome

You will gain your Start Racing (Dinghy) completion certificate. 

 

We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here
