This Better Sailing Dinghy course will be held on 30th June, 7th and 14th July 2024 and is suitable for participants with little or no sailing experience.
Course Inclusions
- 12 hours of tuition with an Australian Sailing-qualified Instructor.
- Sailing dinghies and lifejackets.
- The certificate and photos will emailed on the last day.

Better Sailing is designed to provide a safe and enjoyable introduction to sailing in stronger wind and develop the skills required to get maximum speed from the boat.
Topics covered include the basics of:
- Clothing and safety equipment
- Parts of the boat and Spinnaker
- Rigging (setting the boat up)
- Roll tack and roll gybe
- Sail control and suitable shape
- Speed control
- Launch and recovery from the inverted boat
- Sail backward
- Weather Forecast
- Sailing rules in a course fleet

This course focuses on sailing in stronger winds and introducing extra equipment like spinnaker and trapeze to leverage the full boat potential on the water.
Course Prerequisites
Water confident, and you should have the skills, knowledge and experience gained from the Start Sailing 2 course.
Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who wish to continue developing their sailing skills in dinghies.
Course Outcome
You will gain your Better Sailing completion certificate.
We recognise that some of our course participants are completing the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award and may be using sailing and/or club membership to complete one or more sections of The Award. To learn more, click here.
