*Note: RST is not an Australian Sailing accredited course and instead is conducted by the school/club/organisation, outside of the Australian Sailing framework.
The Recreational Skippers Ticket (RST) is a qualification based on a set of competencies that have been adopted by all government marine safety authorities in Australia to contribute and to promote:
- the safe use of waterways
- an awareness of boating safety
The assessment of these competencies is in two sections: theory and practical.
The Recreational Skipper's Ticket (RST) is a state based certificate of competency which shows that the holder has the minimum knowledge and practical skills needed to operate a recreational powerboat safely.
The minimum age to obtain an RST being 14 years. A person requires a RST if they are to be the skipper of a vessel powered by an engine of more than 6hp.
Course Overview
This one-day course is designed to improve your boat handling skills, especially in confined areas such as marinas and in swell and waves. You will learn more about engines and types of crafts and practise navigation techniques on a passage. In some instances, you can take your completion certificate to your State Maritime Regulator and gain the State Boat License.
Course Prerequisites
Water confident. The skills and knowledge gained in Start Powerboating or equivalent power boating experience.
Who should do this course?
This course is designed for participants who wish to further develop their powerboat driving skills. This course is also a prerequisite for becoming a Dinghy and/or Windsurfing Instructor.
Course Outcome
You will gain your Powerboat Handling completion certificate.
