Event information
The RFBYC Sailing Institute works on a mentor structure where information is shared and passed on to the next generation. Youth Racing Squad sailors will have a lot of fun, make new friends and skills learnt in the small Keelboats will provide further opportunities in the sport of sailing.
The sailor must be 12 to 18 years of age and have previous Keelboat experience or be a Gold Fleet sailor in a Youth or Junior Class to participate. RFBYC offers the Juniors in Keelboats program yearly for Club members to participate in prior to participating in the Youth Racing Squad. To find out if your son or daughter is elegible for this squad please speak to Shelley or Chelsea. Sailors can participate in the Youth Squad a number of times to build fundamental skills. Spinnakers will be used as a part of this course.
The squad sessions includes a sail making session at OneSails Perth, a squad text book, squad shirt, five on water sessions, mentoring from some of the best youth sailors in Western Australia, an opportnity to particiapte in a Fleet Racing mini regatta, lunch on all three days and a barbecue at the presentations on the final session on Saturday 29 June.
The progression from this squad is the Match Racing Squad. The sailor should have the confidence to safely sail the boat in and out of the pen and to be able to sail the boat safey without an on board coach before progressing to the Match Racing Squad. Sailors completing this program will be invited later in the year to participate in the RFBYC Match Racing Squad regatta in August and an invitation to the Sailing Institute regatta in Septemebr 2019 as well as other opportunities that may arise.
The cost to participate in this squad is $180 for RFBYC members and $200 for non-members.
