Event information
The Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club winter time trialling season will commence with Power Opening Day on Saturday, 2 May 2020, concluding on Saturday, 12 September 2020. The season is open to Members of all Clubs, power and sail.
A nominated boat can compete in as many events during the season as they would like. Additional events such as State Teams Events and other WA yacht club invitational events will require seperate nominations and information for these will be sent as required.
Time trialling provides a wonderful opportunity to use your boat big or small on the river over the winter months.
Time trialling is a test of accuracy rather than speed, and requires that you arrive at checkpoints located a known distance apart at precisely the right time, based on your nominated speed of between 5 and 15 knots.
A one point penalty is applied for every second that a boat is early or late at each checkpoint, so that the boat with the lowest number of points lost wins the event. Prizes are also awarded for results on handicap weekly and there are a number of perpetual trophies presented on Closing Day.
It sounds simple but getting the prefect 'zero' score is deceptively difficult and you will find yourself developing your knowledge of the river and perfecting your boat handling skills to achieve it.
Events usually start at 2pm on Saturday and after completing the event, participants proceed to the Member's Bar for some well earned socialising, a bite to eat and announcement of results.
