The RFBYC Sailing Institute works on a mentor structure where information is shared and passed on to the next generation. Youth Keelboat Training sailors will have the chance to make new friends, have fun, and learn skills that could take their sailing in a whole new direction.

Sailors must be aged 12 to 18 and have previous experience sailing in either a keelboat or a Youth or Junior Class to participate. To find out if your child is eligible for this event please speak to Chelsea or Libby.

This program aims to introduce young sailors to keelboat racing.  Sessions will focus on the skills necessary to sail a keelboat safely and effectively, including use of spinnakers, and will include some basic race training.  Sailors will be coached and mentored by some of the best youth sailors in Western Australia, and will gain the confidence to sail keelboats independently and join in club racing.

Also included in the program is a sail making session at OneSails Perth, where participants will gain an insight into the process of sail making.

Each participant will also be given a study book and team shirt.

Successful participants in this program will be invited to participate in the RFBYC Youth Match Racing Training program later in the year.  There they will be able to hone their boat handling skills while learning how to participate in match racing. 

The cost to participate in this squad is $180 for RFBYC members and $200 for non-members.
