The Health Empowerment and Lifestyle Project (HELP) Expression of Interest Form
The Health Empowerment and Lifestyle project (HELP) is a pilot program, one of the first of its kind to be implemented in an Australian University. It aims to increase inclusion and accessibility in the health, wellness and education sectors by breaking down systemic barriers. It will do so through student-driven initatives that raise awareness and find creative ways to overcome challenges to inclusion. The program is ultimately designed to encourage those with a disability to thrive as healthy, happy and valued members of the community.
In the first phase of this initiative the aim is to connect and empower students with a disability through the means of physical activity and exercise. The program will include an initial asessment to discover more about you as a person and what domains of fitness need to be improved.
You will then undertake five weeks of exercise training with an optional relax and wind down session on Friday afternoons. Following this you will be reassessed to see what improvements you have made over the course of training program.
The program is centered around your needs and requirements; therefore, everything is individualised to you with supervision by Accredited Exercise Physiologists. By undertaking this program, you may meet new friends, improve your wellbeing and connectedness with the University.
The program is a service delivery trial of a future larger research project, by undertaking this program you will not only assist in informing future research but also assist in securing support for students with disability at QUT.
