Are you ready to join the QUT Sport High School Overwatch 2 Competition?

Come join us on Saturday 6 May 2023  for an exciting tournament of 16 teams! Upto 12 players can be nominated per team.

The tournament will be a 16 school 2-pool double elimination split. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the finals.

Cost to participate is $300 per team of 12 students (Additional students are welcome)*

Our high school program provides students with a competitive esports environment, broadcast production experience, as well as online wellbeing and safety skills. Mentored by our esports professionals in our esports arena and production facilities, students can participate in the competition as players or in esports industry roles such as officiating, livestreaming and commentating.

Competitive Play

Locations on Garden's Point campus

Four (4) locations will be utilised for competitive game play which are in short walk and sight of each other in either X Block or P Block.

  • Esports Arena X103
  • The Cube Forum P419
  • The Cube P413/A
  • Kindler Theatre P421

School Pools (your entry time) will be allocated on registration order unless later time is required by regional schools to travel to QUT.

Schools will be able to exit the competition earlier once their games have finished in accordance with your school processes.

However students may engage with the program and view the competition from the Kindler Theatre and continue participation in esports industry roles.

Draw updates and progression

On close of registration schools will be forwarded an overview of the event day including the schools participating in the tournament.

Draw updates will be added to QUT RevSport and to QUT High Schools Discord. The only school coordinator will be provided access to the discord. This will host when and where your school will be playing.

Discord is not required to play as students will be connected via closed TeamSpeak on campus only to their team.

Progression and results will also be scheduled on QUT Sport’s Twitch QUT_Esports - Twitch

Student Roles

Industry Roles

These predominately will be conducted from Esports Studio X104 located beside the Arena  (this newly built for 2023)

Student industry roles such as broadcasting will be a scheduled prior to attending the event where possible. Students will be given an overview of the event roles they can participate in. We are more than happy to accept students who express interest on the day. The roles students can participate in are:

  • Casting Live commentary of Esports matches
  • Moderators - Supervising the Twitch chat and ensuring positive engagement online
  • Observing - managing the in-game cameras that are used live in broadcast
  • League Operations - Assisting with marshalling teams to their locations and assisting with recording match results

School assigned student moderation.

Schools will be allocated times to supply a student moderator or the live streaming of events. This will be communicated with your event schedule. Note oversight will be provided by QUT Sport.

Spectators and Live viewing

The Kindler Theatre will be utilised for viewing on competition days. The Kindler Theatre P421 located at the Cube or you can view online at Twitch QUT_Esports - Twitch. Parents and school spectators are welcome to attend. Note QUT has 24-hour security and roaming security patrols.

The QUT security mobile app SafeZone can be download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store to use while on campus to contact QUT Security.

*Overwatch 2 is free to play is free to play and the costs associated are for venue and tournament hosting.
