Health Empowerment and Lifestyle Project
What is it? HELP is a student-driven university initiative to improve student wellbeing.
The project aims to foster healthy habits and a greater sense of community and support amongst QUT students with an Access Equity Plan.
The project will run from the 14th March (week 3) - 29th of May (week 12)
HELP is strongly supported by QUT and for this reason has been heavily subsidised.
For a one-off payment of $50 the project delivers:
- 1x Initial Assessment (week 2) to discover your health goals and what you want out of HELP. This includes a comprehensive analysis of your wellbeing through 5 short surveys.
- 1x Final Assessment (week 11) to see how far you have come towards your health goals.
- 8-weeks (weeks 2-10) of individualised exercise with an Accredited Exercise Physiologist.
- 1 semester of unrestricted access to QUT Kelvin Grove’s on-campus YMCA training facilities, including the YMCA aquatic facilities.
- 2x optional cost-covered consultations with the Nutrition and Dietetics department at the QUT Health Clinic.
- 4x Free and optional fortnightly information sessions/workshops covering topics of Career Support (week 4), Diet and Nutrition (week 6), Finance and Welfare (week 8) and Positive Psychology (week 10)
It can be easy to forget about looking after your health and wellbeing with the stressors and workload that come with completing a university degree. HELP is also a way to just have a talk and touch base regularly with an accredited health professional and take some time each week to focus on your individual health and wellbeing. The emphasis is not on making massive gains at the gym or shredding kilos for next summer, it is completely tailored to you, your needs and the domains of health you want to improve.
The project is a service delivery trial for a future larger research project, by undertaking this project you will not only assist in informing future research but also assist in securing support for students with an Access Equity Plan at QUT.
To partake in the project please be aware that you agree to:
- Commit to the entire 10-week program
- Pay $50 as a one-off payment to participate in the project
- SELECT ONLY ONE RECURRING SESSION that works with your schedule
As part of the registration process, you will be required to complete the APPS screening tool
