Volunteer with QA

Quadball Australia, and indeed, the sport of quadball itself, is entirely volunteer run. We rely entirely on people dedicating their time to grow and improve the sport, for which we are incredibly grateful. Volunteering can be extremely rewarding, is a great way to develop new friendships in the community, and expand your own repertoire of skills.

 

Volunteer Discount Policy

Quadball Australia wants to ensure that our volunteers are rewarded for their time and effort, and are pleased to announce that we are offering a membership discount for all active volunteers!

Volunteers will be provided with a certain level of discount, based on their volunteer position, ontheir membership in the year following their volunterrship. For example, a member volunteering in 2025 will be provided a discount on their 2026 membership.

2025 Tournament Directors

Quadball Australia is looking for Tournament Directors for our two major events this year - State Shield and the Australian Quadball Club Championships (AQCC).

The Tournament Director (TD) is a key volunteer role responsible for management of the event on the day. The TD will work closely with the Events Committee to run a successful event.

We encourage all to apply, no matter the experience level, our incredible Events Committee will be there to help and guide however much is needed.

Dates:

  • State Shield - 4-5th October
  • AQCC - 29-30th November

Quadball Australia Committee Staff Positions Descriptions

Each committee, overseen by a Director, has active projects which are lead by a cooordinator who works with junior volunteers to execute the tasks of the project.

Volunteers will be provided with clear goals and specific tasks with set deadlines to work within. All volunteers will be able to decide how much time and commitment they are able and willing to give to any committee they join, and tasks will be provided to them based on their capacity.

Diversity, Inclusivity, and Community Engagement (DICE) - Director: Justine Eyre

DICE is a evolution of the Gender Engagement Committee, to expand to include more forms of diversity. There will be an increased focus on;

  • Gender engagement
  • Racial engagement
  • LGBTQIA+ engagement
  • Ability/Disability engagement

The Board currently has two Goals for DICE, with further Goals to be worked on when identified and as capacity of the committee allows;

  • Assessment of the current community/setting community goals
    • What we are doing well vs What we can improve
  • Development of Selection resources
    • Rubrics for player selection
    • Rubrics for staff selection

Gameplay - Director: Kelsey Collins

The gameplay committee is a crucial committee that oversees everything to do with playing the sport of Quadball. This includes things such as; review of international rules and national amendments, referee training and certification, coaching resources, and much more.

The Board currently has several projects for the committee;

  • Referee Certification
    • Online classroom and exams
    • Field testing
    • General resources
  • Contact Resources
    • Tackling resources
    • Falling Safely
    • Behind Contact resources
  • Coaching Resources
  • IQA Rulebook Review - as new Rulebooks are released
    • QA Amendments as required
  • Working with DICE on the 3 maximum rule
    • Resources for clubs

Events - Director: Scott Palmer

Quadball Australia runs three major community events each year; Quadcamp, State Shield, and the National Championships. QA also runs some smaller events such as the Mardi Gras Parade Float.

The focus of Quadcamp, State Shield and National Championships are similar;

  • Providing the Board with potential locations
  • Co-ordinating event specific volunteers (such as Tournament Director, Pitch Managers, Workshop Leaders etc)
  • Organising equipment
  • Organising First Aid
  • Tournament Schedule
  • Tournament Social
  • Strategic Forum (Quadcamp specific)
  • Feedback from the community and exit interviews with senior event volunteers

The focus of smaller events such as Mardi Gras;

  • Co-Ordinating event specific volunteers (such as Float Marshall, Creative Idea for Submission Group, Marchers)
  • Organising equipment as needed

Recruitment and Retention - Director: Scott Palmer and Matt Blissenden

There is a strong need to boost not only the overall recruitment efforts, but also the retention of current players and staff. The R&R committee will focus on projects to support both University clubs and Community clubs, as well as looking into more casual options for the sport.

The Board has set three main projects for this committee;

  • University R&R
    • Review and update the recruitment guide
    • Creation of an advertising guide
    • O-Week specific resources
    • Fantasy tournament resources
    • Come & Try resources
  • Community R&R
    • Review and repurpose the recruitment guide
    • Creation of an advertising guide
    • Exhibition Matches resources
    • Come & Try resources
  • Social League
    • Contacting social leagues such as Urban Rec to include Quadball

Media and Communications - Director: Matt Blissenden

Having a strong media presence, along with clear communication channels, are paramount for the furtherance of our sport. There will be three main areas of focus for this committee; Social Media, Website, and the Newsletter.

The Board has identified the following projects;

  • Generating regular social media content
    • Facebook/Instagram - stories and posts
    • TikTok account
  • Monthly newsletter
    • Writing the newsletter each month
    • Encouraging community input and content
  • Website updates
    • Rebranding to Quadball
    • Ensuring constant up-to date information
  • Footage
    • Livestream/Filming of State Shield and the National Championships
    • How to film and edit games resources for clubs and states
    • Creation of compilation videos for use in Recruitment & Retention

Fundraising - Director: Matt Blissenden

Ensuring strong revenue streams is integral to ensuring that all other aspects of Quadball Australia can be appropriately funded.

The Board has identified three main possible revenue streams;

  • Merchandise
    • Creation of designs
    • Keeping the Store up to date
    • Creation of resources for clubs and states
  • Sponsorships
    • Creation of Sponsorship Prospectus
    • Regular outreach to possible sponsors
    • Creation of resources for clubs and states

    • Events
      • Bunnings BBQs
      • Trivia Nights
    • Grants
      • Local, State, National level
    • Donations
      • Use of organisations such as Australian Sports Foundation
    • Creation of resources for clubs and states

Governance and Policy - Director: Matt Blissenden

Ensuring clear and transparent governance documentation and policies to ensure not only increased trust in QA as an organisation, but also to ensure there is no “loss of knowledge” as volunteers come and go to ensure there is no need to recreate the wheel. This committee will work both independently (for the creation and maintenance of general policies) and also with each of the other committees (for the creation and maintenance of specific policies)
