More info about the team sailing league format:

Forget what you know about fleet racing - team sailing encourages tactical engagement between participants where leading boats try to delay their opponents on the course by using the rules of sailing and right of way to create gaps for their teammates to overtake opponents. It is common for leading boats to turn around after rounding a mark, waiting to pounce on an opponent using right of way to force them to tack away from the mark and lose a position - a practice know as setting a mark trap. In other cases, two leading boats may leave the course entirely as one team's leader jostles to luff the opposing leader for as long as possible.

Short courses with ample mark roundings create an opportunity for tactical engagement.

Each race involves two teams of three identically matched TSL14 dinghies per side. The race is scored according to the order of competitors across the finish line (1st place = 1 point; 2nd place = 2 points etc.). The winning team will be the one with the lowest score from the combined places of the three boats in the team, thus requiring true teamwork.

Strong sailors must try to obstruct their opponents to allow their weaker teammates to catch up. A single boat dashing across the finish line in first place while leaving their teammates in fifth and sixth place will mean a loss for the team, since the positions (1st + 5th + 6th = 12 points) count up to more than the other team's score, despite the leader's first place. The other team will have scored 2nd, 3rd and 4th places, which count up to 9 points (2nd + 3rd + 4th = 9). Conveniently, the score combinations happen to work out in a way that 10 or fewer points will always be lower than the opponents' score, which is much easier to calculate in the heat of things. You can win with fewer than 10 points, but more than 10 always loses.

The league is structured so that, depending on the number of entrants, each team ideally sails against every other team entered in a given weekend event. Three competitive events plus one warmup event will be held and the league results across all three events scored either using a points system or a league pool system, depending on the number of teams entered.
