Relay Selection Policy 24/25

Relay Guidelines for Zone, Regional and State 2024/25 Season

The Coaching group will select athletes based on Centre competition results only. There will be no exception to this rule and the Coaching Group’s decisions are final.

All athletes are to opt in for Zone, Regional and State Championships. Only athletes who have opted in will be considered for selection. An online form will be sent out to all athletes and the opt in process must be completed prior to Saturday 9th November.

Selection criteria

If an athlete wants to be selected for representative competitions, it is recommended they compete in as many weekly competitions as possible and perform at their best level to avoid disappointment. The selection period is 4 weeks, from the first competition night on Friday 18th October with the last selection night being Friday 8th  November to allow for  relay training before Zone if able.

The Coaching Group will determine the best athletes for selection. In the first instance when looking at results the best 100m results of an athlete will be used to calculate an average.

As an example, in the case where the event has been offered 4 times, an average of the athletes 2 best results will be used. If there are athletes with a similar average result, PBs and head-to-head results may also be considered to select an athlete.

If an athlete is unable to compete due to a severe medical issue, family bereavement, School Sport Australia Track and Field Championships or any other valid reason (deemed valid by the PMLAC Coaching group), the coaching group will have a replacement list and select the next best athlete based on results. The original athlete selected can run at regionals and/or State Championships if the reason is deemed valid by the Coaching Group. If an athlete withdraws without a valid reason, the Zone substitute will compete at the Regional and/or State Championships.

Parent Duties

Representative parent duties are mandatory for all athletes competing at a representative carnival. Parents must give a commitment of help for every representative carnival at which they have a child competing. Where the duty roster fills up prior to a parent selecting a duty, they will be required to do an additional duty at the following representative carnival.
