3 Rivers Minimarathon 2023
Details
Event information
This fun 25km event, hosted by the Port Macquarie Rowing Club is for everyone who has a non-motorised water craft. From kayaks, canoes and outriggers to sculls, surf and dragon boats. In recent years a growing number of stand-up paddle-boarders have completed it.
The 3 Rivers Mini Marathon starts in the Wilson River, launching at the Log Wharf Reserve at Telegraph Point and then takes in the Maria and Hastings Rivers. Registration will open at 6.30 am, aiming for the first wave of starters to be getting away by around 8.00am and completing the starts by 9am. Most watercraft complete the 25km course in under 3 hours. In 2024 we have introduced a finish cut-off time of 3 hours 30 minutes from the start. Any craft still on the water at this time will be picked up by the sweep boat.
For the recreational or family paddler, the event offers the opportunity to take in the scenery at leisure (although not too much leisure- see note below), in a safe and picturesque watercourse. The tide is expected to be high at Telegraph Point at about 9.05am, meaning most participants will have an outgoing tide assisting them all the way. At the finish, please enjoy food and drink, shade and live music.
Entry fee is $55 per person, except for dragon boats where entry is $30 per seat. This includes coffee at the start and a lunch voucher for the finish, transport back to Telegraph Point if required. In addition we have made a few changes to the event this year. There will be mystery cash prizes to the total value of $1500 drawn at the finish line at 1pm. You must be present to receive a prize and all competitors will receive a participation medal. This year we will not be providing official times. Please feel free to take your own.
The event is weather dependent. Severe weather, including predicted winds in excess of 25 knots, thunderstorms or flooding may cause the cancellation of the event. Fog (which is unlikely in August), could cause starts to be delayed,
In the event of cancellation of the event, the event organisers undertake to refund $20 per person to a nominated bank account, the balance to be retained to cover fixed costs for the event.
Also - back by popular demand-Event T shirts. Please order on the event registration form.
Note for stand up paddleboards and sit-on recreational kayaks particularly
25kms paddled or rowed in a maximum of 3 1/2 hours is not for everyone. Before entering, we suggest you get familiar with your boat and your own capability. Based on previous years' experience, SUPs and small sit-on kayaks may struggle to finish within the cut-off. Be up for the challenge, but be realistic.
For spectators, it’s an opportunity to enjoy riverside entertainment and a BBQ or picnic, while cheering paddlers over the finish line.
