Canowie 1883, winner of the 1883 Port Lincoln Regatta. Run by the PL Regatta Club in the 1800's who put on an annual sports day on the town beach. The Club later merged with the Port Lincoln Sailing Club which had a blue and white pennant to become the Port Lincoln Sailing & Regatta Club. The Club went into recess due to a lack of support caused by the first World War and the depression. The Port Lincoln Yacht Club was formed in 1931. It went into recession during the second World War to be reformed by Roy King, the new proprietor of the Flinder's Guest House in Liverpool Street, who met with local foundation member, Jack Randall, and introduced the then new heavy weight Sharpie.
