Pickleball in Australia is flourishing. In 2023, the Pickleball Australia Association (PAA) has seen exponential growth, sometimes by up to 100 new members a week. Recreational play opportunities are increasing with more and more clubs affiliating and we are seeing competitive play opportunities galore, with approximately 40 sanctioned events on the 2023 calendar. Whilst we still have much to develop and strive for, we are excited for the future of pickleball in Australia.
As a result, PAA would like to announce to our members our formal partnership with Pacific Pickleball. Pacific Pickleball will be recognised as the professional pickleball league in Australia. The Pacific Pickleball League (PPL) will be hosting a series of events, including the Pacific Pro Gold Coast on May 26th-28th, for $10,000 in prize money, with Melbourne and Perth events to follow later in the year. The league is expanding to over 12 events next year.
The explosive popularity of the sport in Australia has created a strong need for professional events, and we believe that this partnership with Pacific Pickleball will support that talent and take the sport to new heights.
Adam Thompson, CEO & co-founder of Pacific Pickleball, said, "We are thrilled to partner with the PAA to bring pickleball to Australia. We believe that this partnership will significantly boost the popularity of the sport in Australia and provide a platform for top players to showcase their skills."
PAA looks forward to working closely with Pacific Pickleball to ensure the continued development of pathways and opportunities for Australian players.
