NSW Phoenix sweep U19 AJBVT Brisbane

On the weekend 22 NSW athletes went up to Brisbane to compete in the second round of the Australian Junio Beach Volleyball Tour. The group included 4 AVA athletes and 1 developing volleyroo as well as 17 NSW Phoenix players.

 

NSW finished the event with the following results:

U19M – Gold (Adam Fejes/Adax Brienen), Silver (Tyson Dagenais / Felix Birke), Bronze (Sam Garvin / Asher Gill)

U19W – Bronze (Oriwia Noble / Remy Song), 5th (Anna Le Blang / Jess Hunter), 9th (Mali Towers), 13th (Amelie Slessor / Isabella Simurina)

U21M – Silver (Tim Ebbs - AVA), 5th (Killian Donovan / Jett Rocker-Graham, Jarvis Page – AVA), 10th (Thomas Smith – AVA), 12th (Bailey Slessor / Ben Schickinger), 13th (Steven Yarad – AVA)

U21W – Gold (Stefie Fejes – Developing Volleyroo)

 

Under 19 men’s champions Adax Brienen and Adam Fejes ran through the tournament undefeated, and didn’t drop a set along the way. In a draw which held to form with the top four seeds progressing to the semi-finals, the top two pairs made it to the gold medal match. Brienen and Fejes were too strong for second seeds Felix Birke and Tyson Dagenais in the final, while third seeds Samuel Garvin and Asher Gill beat Dave Brown and Cooper Sharpe of Queensland in straight sets to claim bronze.

In the U19 Women top-seeded Oriwia Noble and Remy Song lost the semi final in a deciding set to the eventual champions, but defeated fifth seeds Molly Clark and Chloe Sumich for the bronze medal.

The men’s Under 21 final, developing volleyroos Ben Hood and Lucas Josefsen from Queensland went one better than last tournament, defeating Mitchell Croft (VIC) and Timothy Ebbs (NSW) in the gold medal match 2:0 (21-12, 21-13). The Canberra bronze medallist Killian Donovan & Jett Rocker-Graham lost a tough quarter final to the eventual silver medalists and finished up the tournament in 5th place

The Under 21 women’s event saw the number one-ranked team Stefie Fejes (NSW) and her partner Cassie Dodd (WA) defeat fourth seeds from Queensland Brianna Mears and Jasmine Rayner in the gold medal match 2:0 (21-14, 21-19). Fejes and Dodd topped their pool and didn’t drop a set in the whol tournament on their way to the title.
