Safe on-water conduct on the Brisbane River
The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea apply to all vessels operating on Queensland waterways. This includes keeping a proper look out and taking all necessary action to avoid a collision. Sailing vessels must keep out of the way of a vessel restricted in her ability to manoeuvre - the Miramar for example.
The Brisbane River Code of Conduct includes general rules on the river, interacting with other vessels, safety and incident reporting.
Reporting Incidents
All safety incidents, even small safety risks, should be reported to the committee.
The Queensland Transport Operations (Marine Safety) Act 1994 requires all marine incidents to be reported to a shipping inspector within 48 hours. Information about reporting is available on the Maritime Safety Queensland website.
For the purposes of the Act, your boat (even an Opti) is a "ship" and you are its "master".
