Fast 5s at Reds (Formerly Youth Hockey 5s)

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for more Years 3-4 and 5-6 hockey players to play small sided 5-a-side games on turf.

Fast Fives is a small sided games concept maximising the ball in play and players being engaged and active.

 

Term 3: Friday 31st July - Friday 11th September 

Times: 4.30pm - 6.30pm (In 40 minute windows)

 

Cost / Registration: $50 (Plus $2.50 Booking Fee)

 

Equipment

• All players must have shin pads, mouth guard and a hockey stick
• All players must be registered with an HWA club / affiliate for insurance purposes
• No specific team kit is required, bibs can be used to differentiate teams

 

Teams

• Years 3-4 will play 5-a-side with no goalkeepers
• Year 5-6 will play 5-a-side with a goalkeeper

 

Format

• Teams are not directly club based. Teams can be developed from peers, intra-club and schools
• If there is a specific group of players they want to play with they are requested to make a team name and list this in their registration e.g ‘Wasps Stingers’ etc
  - You do not need to be in a team, if you register alone we will find you a team to play in to meet new people
• Teams are encouraged to have their own custom kits / colours as opposed to club uniform
• Games will run within 40-minute windows
• 2 minute warm up, 3 x 11 minute thirds, 2 minutes break in between each third

 

Why Fast 5s?

1. Bridge the gap between grass and turf hockey

2. Offer small sided games with lots of touches and exposure to aid engagement and development

3. Create an inclusive community / family social environment that can be enjoyed by all

The concept is based on FIH ‘Hockey 5’s’. This is the hockey concept adopted within the Youth Olympic Games

 

Insurance

Players are required to be affiliated to a club and therefore insured through Hockey Australia
