Under 16, 18 & 21 NWL Academy for State Trials
In addition to the North West Lightning Development Academy that will run in early 2024, we are offering an academy for players wishing to trial for the 2024 Under 16, Under 18 and Under 21 State teams. The aim of the Academy is to prepare players for the rigors of State trials and to improve chances of selection in the State Academy and ultimately the State team. This year fifteen of our Elite Academy attendees were successful in being selected for the State Academy and eleven junior Lightning players represented Victoria.
The six-session program will cover fitness, skills and drills used and designed by a current State coach. Some sessions will also include information from nutritionists, physiotherapists, fitness coaches and specialized goalie coaches.
The sessions will be held on a Saturday afternoon/evening and Sunday mornings. Every effort will be made to organise accommodation on the Saturday night for Academy members who don’t reside in Bendigo.

Who: Players born in 2003 - 2010
Where: Bendigo Hockey Complex
Cost: $120 ($100 for 2nd or more family members)
Nominations close: Monday 30th October at 8.00pm
The Academy is capped at 20 participants. If it is oversubscribed, selection will be based on the Lightning JSC coach feedback or replicated with separate Under 16, Under 18 and Under 21 programs. This Academy has been subsidised by NWL, with fees charged to cover pitch hire, coach fee, specialist health sessions and travel.
