Published Fri 15 Oct 2021
Men’s softball in it’s first two weeks has been a win and loss for both Saints and Eagles. Brayden Cobern pitched some heat out of the circle for Saints in what would be his first pitching game since the grand final game last season. Eagles struggled to find form with the bats against a strong pitching performance on display by Cobern. Eagles managed to score three through Matt Tatnell and a single from James Foster. A strong batting line up with the likes of Brayden Cobern, Sean Roddick, Tyler Brooks and James North too much for the eagles to hold back, Saints with a convincing win 12-3.
Junior softball has certainly had a significant rise in numbers and the long break showing promising signs for the skill and game development of the younger playing group. With four teams now in the roster it gives players a great opportunity to gain a greater experience and variety with their game. Eagles Blue v Saints White, Eagles Blue with a solid performance over Saints White 10-6. Shayla Brand sharing pitching duty with Ruby Payne for Eagles and Ryleigh Emms out of the circle for Saints White. Ella Swan, Jakobe Reeves and Kai Martin-Sheppard each scoring well for Saints White, Lellani Kikoak hitting a home run for Eagles Blue and well supported from the rest of the batting line up including, Logan and Blake Payne, Angus Perry, Shayla Brand and new comer Courtney Bale. In the 11am junior game Saints Red eventual winners after Eagles Gold managed to claw their way to the lead in a thrilling game only to finish on uneven innings and the score reverting back with an 8-6 result. Kaeden Marshall with the pitching duty for Eagles Gold and Chase McFerran-Shepherd with the duty for Saints. Both teams did well in the field and at bat. Taylah Osborne, Riff Kemp, Sam Brown and Sophie Jarman all scoring for Saints, Finlay Antypas, Kaeden Marshall and first gamer Max Stepchuk doing their bit for the team and scoring well.
Open Women also fielding four teams in the roster this season! Eagles Blue comfortably over Saints Black. Kayleen Woodcock and Peta Terry sharing the pitching for Saints and Sophie Tatnell holding the fort for Eagles. Jodi Bannister solid at third base making several plays for outs, not enough to slow up the run of the Eagles Blue. Ruby and Sophie Tatnell, Abbie Tregurtha and Caitlyn Pinel all firing for Eagles on the day. In three o’clock game Eagles Gold v Saints Red in a tight match. Belinda McFerran out of the circle for Saints Red, Eliesha Gardner for Eagles in what was a pitching duel. Lellani Kikoak, Jaymee Goss, Finlay and Meg Antypas all crossing the plate for Eagles Gold, Bridget Freeman, Belinda McFerran scoring for Saints Red. The game in the balance for the duration and could have well gone either way. Final result 5-2 Eagles Gold.
