SAINTS MEN REIGN ON EAGLES PARADE
Rain spoils the day for the softball roster but not before the Saints Men put on a batting display against low flying Eagles. Sean Roddick out of the circle for Saints held the Eagles to a single score after four full innings. Troy O’Konnah struggled to hold down the batting force of the Saints men although the game was with in two runs going into the fourth. Tyler Brooks and Brayden Cobern both sending long balls over the fence and were supported well through their line up. Paul Bultitude has returned for the Saints and supported the team well with a solid batting performance. Craig Jones, Saints new comer finding his groove in the side also hitting well on the day. Phil Marshall played in his first game for Eagles Men along with Andy Heyward playing at third base and getting on base. Caellan Beeton settled his nerves in the batters box and hit well for eagles, and in support Nic Heames a solid at bat but not enough to send any more runners across the plate to lessen the gap. Saints Men with a disciplined performance came away with a 6-1 win and sit comfortably at the top of the table. Junior games got under way and off to a great start and looked to be settling into some great softball until the heavens opened and spoilt any chance of resuming games. Diamond 1 well under water with in minutes and the grass diamonds deemed unsafe to complete any games for the day. Women’s State Championships are fast approaching and are set to be held in Ulverstone on the 13th and 14th of November should four or more teams get entered. All sides of the state are to be represented at the tournament at this point in time. Ulverstone (USA) are current title holders and will be difficult to shut down on their home turf. The teams from the North and South will be on a mission to make the A grade final after the round robin games across the weekend. We have witnessed some great clashes in recent years with the gap closing between all of the association offering some great games for spectators and players. The Men’s state tournament is heading south this season as Hobart are the hosts and that is also set up to be a great clash between the three representing Associations. Plenty of softball yet to be played right around the state and across the summer for all keen softballers to enjoy and look forward too!
