Introduction
The NSW Rifle Association (NSWRA) will host a Service Rifle Championships on 5-6th October 2024 on the ANZAC Service Rifle Range, Franklin Street, Malabar.
The match will commence at 9:00am on each day.
On the Saturday, commencing at 8:00am, all competitors documentation and rifles will be scrutinized to ensure they comply with the requirements of the rifle class in which that competitor intends to shoot and grading confirmed where required for the competitor class.
The details of the match, the match rules, and eligibility to compete are set out below.
Eligibility to Compete
To be eligible to participate in the Service Championships, competitors must be current members of the National Rifle Association of Australia (NRAA) or other accredited Association.
Competitors must have a current Firearms Licence which must be include 'Target Shooting' as a Genuine Reason for holding the licence.
Match Classifications
Competitors and their firearms must fall within one of the following groups:
Firearm Class Competitor’s Grade
Service Rifle Standard A, B, or C
Service Rifle Modified A, B, or C
Service Rifle Open – no grading
Sniper Class Vintage Open – no grading
Sniper Class Modern Open – no grading
A Competitor will NOT be permitted to shoot in more than one class .
Match Rules
The matches will be held in accordance with the NRAA Standard Shooting Rules (SSR) (current version published at 1/07/2023). The relevant references to these service championships can be found in the following SSR Chapters and Appendices:

Competitors are advised to review these rules to ensure they and their proposed class of firearm, sling, clothing, etc. will comply with the rifle class in which the competitor intends to shoot.
Due to range limitations, the muzzle energy of any rifle used must not exceed the Range Approval limit of 4,500 joules.
Range Safety
Rifle bolts are NOT to be inserted into the rifle until the competitor is on the firing mound and about to commence their detail.
At the end of the detail, the competitor will remove their bolt and magazine (if possible) and have their rifle cleared separately by each of the two Safety Officers. If the magazine or bolt is not removeable a breech flag must be inserted.
Should any competitor witness an emergency or potential range safety issue they must report the matter immediately to the Range Officer running the match.
Match Details:
The match will commence at 9:00am on each day, with a daily briefing at 8:30am.
On the Saturday, all competitors are to be present by present by 8:00am, to ensure the competitor's documentation and rifles can be scrutinized to ensure they comply with the requirements of the rifle class in which that competitor intends to shoot and grading confirmed where required for the relevant competitor class.
Variation of the Program
The program may be varied due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances as appropriate. Changes will be notified to competitors by the Chief Range Officer.
Range Operations
The service championships will use various manually operated targets, some hand-held others in ‘Hythe’ target mechanisms.
Supporting the match operations will be the following persons:
All competitors will be expected, on a rotational basis, to act as a target operator, a Safety Oficer or a Range Officer (RO), ROs will need to have achieved NRAA Upskilled RO accreditation.
Medallions and Presentations
Medallions will be awarded daily for overall competition placings for each competitor class.
On the Sunday, medallions will also be awarded for the best overall for the two days of competition.

The Daily and the Overall championship presentation ceremonies will be held on the mound.
Prizes
While Championship placegetters will receive medallions, the following sponsors are contributing prizes:
Prize winners will be decided by a blind draw with competitors and match volunteers eligible for one entry per person.
Parking
Vehicles (except for official match vehicles) must park at least 30 metres or as directed behind the mound. Please follow the range and traffic rules as signposted to ensure the safety of everyone on the range.

Service Championships Entry Fee (Two Days) $85

Entries close 5pm Wednesday 2nd October 2024. No late or walk-up entries will be accepted.
Accommodation Fees
Bunk Accommodation using communal toilet/showers $25
Bunk accommodation with toilet. $30
GENERAL INFORMATION
On-Site Camping and Caravan Facilities
Due to ground subsidence in the caravan and camping area, this area will not be operating, only room accommodation will be available.
Accommodation in Various Rooms
The accommodation facilities available include bunk beds, and some may include toilet facilities. If you choose this accommodation, you need to supply own bedding or sleeping bag.
Toilet and Shower Facilities
Toilets and showers are located in ‘B’ Block. An Accessible toilet and shower are available beneath Jamieson House.
Range Access
Competitors will be supplied with a range security gate access PIN for the duration of this match. Please do not share this PIN with any third parties.
Meals & Refreshments
Lunch will be available from the MDRA Canteen on the Saturday, other meals are available from food outlets in the Malabar shops and the Souths Juniors Club at 28 Victoria Street, Malabar.
NSW Rifle Association Shop
The Shop will be open on the Saturday from 8am to 1pm. The NSWRA Shop is located in ‘C” block, next to the MDRA Office and canteen (Refer Range Diagram). In addition to ammunition and reloading components, the Shop stocks and extensive range of clothing and accessories. The shop accepts most major credit cards (not Amex). Security and Personal Safety
Please ensure that adequate precautions are taken to protect against theft or loss. The NSW Rifle Association accepts no risk or responsibility for losses, damages, costs, injury, or other consequences resulting directly or indirectly from your participation in this event.
Safe storage requirements must always be adhered to. As a guide, the NSW Firearms Registry recommends the following to secure a firearm between matches and when staying away from a competitor’s place of residence:
Public events continue to be affected by COVID-19. If you feel unwell of have flu like systems, please consider taking a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) and/or stay at home. All precautions will be taken to keep you safe if you have a medical emergency, please let a Range Office know who will take any necessary action.
The Service Range Trailer located on the mound contains a First Aid Kit and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
