Umpire Training Session 2 - Plate Umpire Mechanics

NSDSA will be running the second Umpire Training Session on Friday 4 June.

Please arrive at 6:15PM for Registration at Diamond 1. The session will commence at 6:30PM.

The topic for this session is Plate Umpire Mechanics. 

  • The Plate Mechanics training is open to all umpires. The training session will help to improve all Plate Umpires technical performance.
  • BiTs who are going for their Level 1 umpires accreditation in 2021 are highly encouraged to attend to get their Plate Mechanics up to a suitable level for Level 1 accreditation.
  • This training will assist with umpire knowledge and technique. The training needs to be reinforced through personal practice of learning techniques at Saturday Umpiring where Senior Umpires can provide further feedback during/ after Saturday games.

What to Bring

  • Softball or umpiring clothing - Make sure you wear comfortable warm clothing. The session will include both instruction as well as practical aspects
  • Umpire counters
  • Softball gloves for the practical session
  • Notebook and pen if you want to take notes.
  • NSDSA will have some Umpire “protective plate equipment” for the session. It is not necessary to have you own plate gear for this session.

6. Plate Umpire Signals

  • Play ball (left hand and right hand batter)
  • Strike
  • Out
  • Foul Ball
  • Deal Ball
  • Infield Fly
  • Safe

 7. Practical – Plate Umpire practical session.

NSDSA will be enforcing the requirements for gatherings under the NSW Govt and Softball NSW protocols for Covid-19. Please maintain Social Distancing. Hand Sanitiser will be available. We will have a number of Senior Blues in attendance to lead and assist with the session. They will be able to answer any questions you may have.
