Cairns Yacht club
Captain Cook Highway
Ellis Beach 4870
This is the 3rd regatta in the traveller series. The club is set on the absolute beach front of beautiful Ellis Beach. The club has a lovely large grassed area to camp in along the beach. There are trees for shade. Camping is amazing in this spot. The facilities are ok but be warned the water has an orange tinge and faint smell due to it being bore water and so close to the ocean. The water is fine to bath in though. The location is amazing. There is a caravan park close by, but book early as they have limited cabins. Ellis Beach is about 20 minutes from Cairns although Clifton Beach is about a ten minute drive and has a super market and takeaway shops on the main highway. Just down the road from the club is a pub that offers meals and drinks. Depending on weather conditions, launching boats can be a little tricky. If it is windy, it is best to carry the sabot into the water rather than launch off the beach trolley. Don’t panic though, we will have discussions on this topic and ensure all who is involved understand the correct launch and retrieval method for the sabots.
