The Nagambie Lakes Community House has supported the Sailing Group to re-form the Nagambie Lakes Sailing Club Inc. by providing a meeting space to House members Jeannette Murray and Bev Guest-Smith. A ‘steering committee’ is formed including Jeanette and Ross Murray, Bernadette and Geoff Boadle, Olga Novak, and Bev. The Nagambie Club is affiliated with the Australian
Sailing association and follows its safety, event, training, and insurance rules.
The first sailing club was established in Nagambie in 1933, with many versions existing over the years. The new sailing club includes members of the former club, people new to sailing and some who simply wish to be social members.
The community has given wonderful support with many people joined. Strathbogie Shire has provided a community grant to help the club re-establish the sailing boat shed club house at the Regatta Centre in Loddings Lane, Lake Nagambie. GoNagambie has provided administrative support to help establish the club. Bendigo Bank has provided funds to develop facilities. The Mechanics Institute has donated new life jackets. Nagambie Outdoors Store has sponsored equipment for the club. The club offers Individual and Family Sailing and Non- Sailing Social memberships. Other non-motorised watercraft members are welcome, e.g. kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. Club members will be advised of Club Sailing and Social Events via email.
Sailing Days will be conducted for the public and advertised in The Community Voice.
Our first event is at the N.O.W. Festival. The Nagambie On Water (NOW) Festival, on Saturday 25th February 2023, provides an opportunity for you to come and try a sailboat ride on beautiful Lake Nagambie, with a qualified Australian
Sailing instructors in their yachts. Purchase a ticket as part of the NOW Festival ‘Stay Play’ afternoon activities. You don’t need to know how to sail and safety gear is provided. Remember to be ‘SunSmart’. We look forward to you joining in the fun at our community-based, volunteer club at Lake Nagambie.
